What would you do if someone suddenly collapsed beside you? Would you know how to help if a loved one stopped breathing, a colleague suffered a stroke, or a stranger began choking?

The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability at the just-ended World Environment Day Celebrations held at the centre on June 5, 2026. The day was marked by a virtual lecture on the theme, “Waste Segregation and Plastic Reduction: A Shared Responsibility.” The programme highlighted the critical role of healthcare institutions in protecting public health and the environment through sustainable practices.

Nutrition emerged as a key focus in the management of thyroid disorders as the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), in collaboration with the Thyroid Ghana Foundation (TGF), marked World Thyroid Day 2026. The programme provided a platform for healthcare experts, patients and advocates to discuss thyroid health, share experiences and equip participants with knowledge on nutrition, early detection and treatment.

Nurses and Midwives Week 2026 at UGMC (19th–22nd May) was a combination of celebration and scientific knowledge. It also featured the launch of the First Biennial Scientific Conference, which focused on quality, safety, compassion, and value-based sustainable healthcare.

The Haematology Department of the University of Ghana Medical Centre commemorated World Haemophilia Day on April 17, 2026, as part of global efforts to raise awareness about haemophilia and improve patient outcomes through early diagnosis. Observed under the theme “Diagnosis: First Step to Care,” the event brought together healthcare professionals to examine the challenges and opportunities in managing haemophilia in Ghana, while reinforcing the importance of timely detection.
