The UGMC Women and Children Block provides general and specialized world-class service in obstetrics/gynecology and paediatrics. These include, prenatal (antenatal care) care, labour and delivery, postnatal care, neonatal intensive care, paediatric intensive care and general paediatric care. Our personalised services are provided by a well-motivated and skilled human resource who are ready to offer you expert and compassionate care in a customer-friendly and serene environment.Making an AppointmentYou are strongly encouraged to make an initial appointment with us as soon as you realize you are pregnant and preferably within the first 10 weeks of your pregnancy. Nonetheless, please feel free to make an appointment with us anytime.Your first appointment will consist of your thorough medical history, risk assessment and an educational session with specially trained midwives and obstetrician/gynaecologist. This initial visit will be followed by the necessary follow-up appointments and laboratory tests which are necessary to ensure that you have a smooth pregnancy and delivery.

The UGMC Pharmacy Directorate provides world-class pharmaceutical services to patients and clients. The operational model has pharmacies located in all clinical areas to ease the provision of pharmaceutical services to patients.Core FunctionsThe Directorate undertakes the following among others:Ensures the selection and availability of high-quality, efficacious and affordable medicines, medical devices and supplies.Ensures the safe and rational use of medicines in patients and staff.Provides information on patients’ medication through adherence and discharge counselling to ensure compliance and adherence to their therapy.Multidisciplinary team support by providing evidence-based information on medicines to optimize patient care.Training of residents, pharmacy students, pharmacy support staff in training and other healthcare workers to obtain the requisite knowledge in pharmacy practice.Education and encouragement of patients to report side effects and adverse reactions encountered while patients are on their medications as well as actions to take when they occur. Pharmacy Directorate subsequently provides prompt reports to FDA on the incidents. Conduction of operational research and development of policies for the safe use of medications at UGMC.The pharmacy directorate is headed by Dr. Josephine Mensah. The pharmacy team comprises of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians/technologists, dispensing assistants, procurement officers, supply chain officers, administrative staff, and orderlies.

The mission of the Emergency Department at UGMC is to provide the highest quality and timely care to patients presenting for emergency treatment, to offer outstanding educational opportunities for medical, nursing, and allied health personnel, and to further medical knowledge through the pursuit of research. Emergency Medicine is the first and crucial front line for responding to spur-of-the-moment and undifferentiated patients of all ages in life threatening situations. Our highly skilled, dedicated and patient centred ED team provide an environment that promotes compassion and respect for our patients and their families using the highest ethical standards and rational use of resources while managing pain at every level of care. The clinical process at the ED is focused on continuously improving the quality of patient care and optimizing the patient care experience.
