According to WHO estimates, a woman dies every two seconds from cervical cancer and in Ghana, it is the leading cause of Gynaecological deaths. Yet the Disease is curable when diagnosed and treated early.

The World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is celebrated annually globally from 18th to 24th November and the theme for this year’s celebration was, “Spread Awareness; Stop Resistance.” The WAAW week was climaxed at UGMC with a forum that was held at the main auditorium of its Medical Training and Simulation Centre (MTSC) on 24th November 2021. The WAAW is an initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) as part of measures to curb Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) worldwide.

Occupational Therapy is a client-centered health profession and the role of these therapists is to support individuals to overcome the effects of decreased functioning caused by illness, aging and/ or accident so that they can carry out their everyday tasks, be it physical, psychological social or environmental. World Occupational Therapists (OT) day is thus a day set aside to create awareness about OT and also to celebrate Occupational Therapists. The day which fell on the 27thof October was on the theme “Belong, Be you”.

The Medical Simulation and Training Centre of the University of Ghana Medical Centre LTD (UGMC) in collaboration with Emergency and Critical Care Network (ECCN , Health Solutions International Inc. and Africa Resuscitation Initiative have conducted a training programme on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) at the Medical Centre in Legon, Accra.
