At UGMC, we remain laser-focused on fulfilling our mission to inspire hope and promote health for all.
We are pleased to announce that, under the leadership of our CEO, Dr. Abdul Samed-Tanko; the Director of Medical Affairs, Dr. Baffoe Gyan; and the Head of the Kidney Transplant Team, Dr. Mary Money, the Centre has successfully performed four additional kidney transplants.
The procedures were carried out in collaboration with globally renowned transplant surgeon Prof. Nadey Hakim, who is affiliated with leading international institutions, including the Cleveland Clinic (UK).
The transplants were made possible through the dedicated efforts of a multidisciplinary team comprising specialists from urology, general surgery, intensive care, theatre services, nephrology, cardiology and cardiothoracic services, pharmacy, anaesthesia, allied health professionals, including biomedical engineers, as well as other essential support staff.
The procedures involved four recipients and four living donors and were conducted from 25th to 26th May 2026.
To date, a total of 18 kidney transplants have been successfully performed at the Centre since the first procedures were conducted exactly two years ago, in June 2024.
For Team UGMC, successes such as these, restoring hope to patients who had once lost all hope, continue to inspire and drive our commitment.
