Inauguration of the Nanox.arc Digital Tomography Demo & Training centre at UGMC

The Nanox.ARC Digital Tomography Demo & Training Centre has been successfully inaugurated at the University of Ghana Medical Centre LTD (UGMC). The Centre which is a partnership between the UGMC, Forte Medical and Nanox Vision, is to train healthcare professionals from Ghana and across the sub-region on the use of the Nanox.Arc 3D multi-source system.

In his welcome address, the CEO of UGMC, Dr. Darius Osei stated the vision of the UGMC is to distinguish itself in the provision of world-class patient care, training and research and so he was excited that the Centre was playing a pioneering role in new and innovative health technologies. He indicated that the Nanox system had been designed to enable the early detection of medical conditions that were not easily detected by the ordinary X-ray and was also more cost-effective than the CT scan. Dr Osei further stated that the Nanox Arc Digital Tomography Demo Training Centre represented a major investment in the future of medical technology in Ghana. He added that it will provide a platform for researchers, physicians, and students to learn and collaborate on the latest advancements in the medical field. 
 
Dr. Hafez Adam who represented Ghana’s Minister for Health, Hon Kwaku Agyemang Manu, said that the Ministry was impressed that the UGMC was launching an innovative radiology learning centre just a few months after the historic commissioning of Phase II of the UGMC Project. He encouraged the Centre to embark on more such initiatives to boost medical tourism in the country and advised the management of the Centre to ensure the sustainability of the Training Centre by ensuring that the equipment was properly maintained over the years. 

 In her remarks, the ambassador for Israel, Her Excellency, Ms. Shlomit Sufa revealed that the partnership between Forte Medical and UGMC was facilitated by the Israel Economic and Trade Mission to Ghana to promote trade and economic relations between the two countries. 

The CEO of Nanox Imaging, Israel, Mr.  Erez Meltzer stated that he was thrilled that his organization had taken the giant step towards improving global health by providing this valuable training and resources to radiologists and medical professionals in Ghana and the sub-region. 

The CEO of Forte Medical Nana Addo, said that this cutting-edge medical imaging technology in Ghana would emit less radiation and would ultimately make it easier for doctors to diagnose and treat medical conditions. 

Other speakers at the launch were Mr. Yaniv Tessel, Head of the Economic and Trade Mission to Ghana, Embassy of Israel, Chief Medical Officer of Forte Medical, Dr Joshua Ghanem, Mr.  Ofir Koren, General Manager of the ARC division and the MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon Lydia Alhassan. The launch took place on February 23rd 2023.
