OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT
The Music Therapy Department at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) provides therapeutic interventions that use music-based techniques to support the physical, emotional, psychological, and social well-being of patients. The department integrates evidence-based music therapy practices into patient care to promote relaxation, emotional expression, coping, communication, and overall quality of life.
Music therapy is used as a complementary healthcare service that supports patients across different clinical areas, including those experiencing medical conditions, emotional challenges, stress, pain, or rehabilitation needs. Through individualized and group-based sessions, the department works collaboratively with healthcare teams to provide holistic care that addresses patients’ physical and emotional needs.
