Ambulance
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT
The Ambulance Service Department at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) provides prompt, safe, and efficient emergency medical transportation for patients requiring urgent and critical care. As an integral component of the Centre's emergency care system, the department ensures the rapid transfer of patients from homes, accident scenes, healthcare facilities, and other locations to UGMC or other appropriate health facilities for specialized treatment. Equipped with modern ambulances that support both Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS), the department enables trained emergency personnel to deliver life-saving interventions while transporting patients.
Working closely with the Emergency Medicine Department, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Operating Theatres, and other clinical specialties, the Ambulance Service ensures continuity of care from the point of patient retrieval to definitive treatment. The department operates 24 hours a day and is committed to providing timely emergency response, inter-facility transfers, and safe patient transportation while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, professionalism, and quality care. UGMC maintains four (4) ambulances to facilitate prompt and efficient healthcare delivery for patients in critical condition.
