UGMC Head of Department | Medical Stores

Rev. Dr. (Pharm) Shadrach Ofoe Hanson is a seasoned pharmacist and healthcare leader with extensive experience in hospital pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical supply management, and public health pharmacy. He currently serves within the Medical Stores Department at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), where he contributes to ensuring the efficient management, availability, and distribution of medicines and health commodities to support quality patient care. 

Throughout his professional career, he has served in various healthcare institutions across Ghana, gaining broad experience in pharmaceutical care, hospital pharmacy operations, inventory management, and healthcare administration. His multidisciplinary background in pharmacy, business administration, and ministry enables him to provide strategic leadership while promoting excellence in healthcare service delivery. 
 

His area of expertise is Public Health Pharmacy, with particular interest in pharmaceutical supply systems, medicines management, and the optimization of healthcare resources to improve patient outcomes. 

Rev. Dr. Hanson holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, a Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration (CEMBA), and a Master of Arts in Ministry (MAM). He also holds Membership of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) and a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm Hons), reflecting his commitment to professional excellence and lifelong learning. 

Rev. Dr. Hanson has accumulated extensive experience in hospital pharmacy practice across several healthcare institutions in Ghana. Before joining the University of Ghana Medical Centre, he served at St. Martin’s Memorial Hospital, Ashaiman; Janie Speaks A.M.E. Zion Hospital, Akomadan; and Methodist Hospital, Wenchi. His experience spans pharmaceutical care, medicines management, healthcare administration, and supply chain operations. 

His professional and research interests include medication availability research, stock and commodity management, pharmacoeconomics, pharmaceutical care, healthcare training, and professional mentorship. He is particularly interested in strategies that improve access to essential medicines and strengthen pharmaceutical systems within healthcare institutions. 

Rev. Dr. Hanson possesses strong competencies in teamwork, leadership, analytical thinking, organizational management, and communication. His ability to coordinate teams and manage complex healthcare processes has contributed to the effective delivery of pharmaceutical services throughout his career. 

He is an active member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) and the Postgraduate College of Pharmacists. Through these professional affiliations, he contributes to the advancement of pharmacy practice and professional development within the healthcare sector.
