She currently serves as a Full-Time Consultant Neurologist at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), where she provides specialist neurological care for patients with a wide range of neurological conditions.

Before joining UGMC, she served as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Medicine of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and Consultant Neurologist at the Ho Teaching Hospital for nine years. She also served as Senior Lecturer at the University for Development Studies (UDS) School of Medicine and Health Sciences and Consultant Neurologist at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where she contributed significantly to clinical services and medical education.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Hernandez Gonzalez worked as a Second-Degree Neurologist and Associate Researcher at the Cuban Neuroscience Center in Havana, Cuba, where she was actively involved in neuroscience research and clinical practice. During this period, she participated in international scientific collaborations, including research at the Department of Neurosciences of La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy, and served as a Consultant Neurologist and Researcher for an international clinical-genetic and biopsychosocial study for persons with disabilities in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
She also spent ten years as a Fellow Neurologist at the Dr Carlos J. Finlay Central Teaching Military Hospital in Havana, Cuba, while providing specialist neurological services at the International Health Centre "Las Praderas." She began her career as a specialist as a Neurology Resident at the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery in Havana, Cuba, where she completed her postgraduate training in Neurology.

Dr. Hernandez Gonzalez obtained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Medical Sciences, Santiago de Cuba, through the School of Medical Sciences, Guantanamo, Cuba, in 1992. She subsequently completed her Fellowship in Neurology (First Degree) at the University of Medical Sciences, Havana, Cuba, in 1995.
She holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Cognitive Neurosciences from the Cuban National Center for Scientific Research, Havana, Cuba. In 2007, she was awarded the Second-Degree Fellowship in Neurology by election from the University of Medical Sciences, Havana, Cuba, in recognition of her outstanding professional achievements.
In 2021, she was elected as a Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians in the Faculty of Internal Medicine, recognising her significant contributions to neurological practice and specialist medical care in Ghana.
