UGMC Head of Clinical & Inpatient Pharmacy Department

Dr. Fareeda Serwaa Brobbey, is a Senior Specialist Pharmacist, public health practitioner, and healthcare leader with over fifteen years of experience in clinical pharmacy practice, health policy and management, healthcare administration, and workforce development. Her career has been defined by a commitment to advancing patient-centred care, strengthening health systems, and developing innovative pharmacy services that improve health outcomes. 

Currently serving as Head of the Clinical and Inpatient Pharmacy Department and Education and Training Coordinator at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Dr. Brobbey provides strategic leadership for clinical pharmacy services, professional training, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. She is recognized for establishing specialist pharmacy units, mentoring emerging pharmacy professionals, and championing quality improvement initiatives within hospital practice. 

Beyond her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Brobbey is a passionate advocate for women's health and public health advancement. As Founder of the Endometriosis Foundation Ghana, she has led national awareness and advocacy efforts aimed at improving the lives of women affected by endometriosis and other reproductive health conditions. Her leadership, research contributions, and commitment to service have earned her recognition nationally and internationally, including selection as a Mandela Washington Fellowship Fellow. 

Combining expertise in infectious diseases pharmacy, public health, leadership, and healthcare policy, Dr. Brobbey remains dedicated to shaping the future of pharmacy practice, strengthening healthcare systems, and empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals across Ghana and beyond. 

Dr. Brobbey holds a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy from the Ghana College of Pharmacists and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. She also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) from University of Ghana and a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Her multidisciplinary training uniquely positions her at the intersection of clinical practice, public health, leadership, and health policy. 

With more than fifteen years of progressive experience in hospital pharmacy practice and healthcare leadership, Dr. Brobbey has served in several leadership and specialist roles within Ghana's tertiary healthcare system. She currently leads the Clinical and Inpatient Pharmacy Department at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where she oversees multiple pharmacy units, coordinates clinical education and training, and drives service innovation and quality improvement initiatives. 

Prior to joining UGMC, she worked at Tamale Teaching Hospital, where she served as Pharmacy Manager for the Accident and Emergency Department, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Pharmacy, and later as Deputy Pharmacy Manager of the Outpatient Pharmacy. She also served as a Claims Manager at the Dormaa Mutual Health Insuarance Scheme after her internship training at the Sunyani Regional Hospital (now known as the Sunyani Teaching Hospital) 

Throughout her career, she has remained committed to patient-centred pharmaceutical care, clinical education, mentorship, and health service development. Her notable achievements include establishing specialist pharmacy units in surgery and cardiovascular care, organizing large-scale professional development programmes, and mentoring over one hundred pharmacy trainees and professionals. 

Dr, Brobbey is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGh), Ghana Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA) and a Fellow of the Ghana College of Pharmacists. She is also an member of the Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana (LAPAG) where she currently serves as a National Executive Member and a coordination for Maternal, Reproductive and Child Health. 

Dr. Brobbey's professional interests include clinical pharmacy practice, infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, healthcare quality improvement, women’s health, health policy and management, clinical education, translational parmacy and healthcare leadership. She is particularly passionate about leveraging evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes and strengthen healthcare systems. 

Her research interests encompass infectious diseases pharmacotherapy, antimicrobial use and resistance, cardiovascular disease prevention, medication safety, public health, vaccine uptake, health services research, and reproductive health. She has presented her work at international scientific meetings, including the FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She also has contributed to peer-reviewed publications addressing antimicrobial prescribing, cardiovascular health, vaccine uptake, and healthcare quality improvement. 

Outside her professional responsibilities, Dr. Brobbey is deeply committed to mentorship, leadership development, and community engagement. She enjoys supporting the growth of young healthcare professionals, designing public health outreach programmes, advocating for women's health, and participating in initiatives that empower young people and underserved communities. Through her work with the Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana and the Endometriosis Foundation Ghana, she continues to champion health education, advocacy, and social impact. 

In her leisure time, she enjoys reading, public speaking, professional networking, travelling, and spending quality time with family and friends.
