Professor Alfred Edwin Yawson, MB ChB (Ghana), LSHTM (London) MSc (LSE, London), FWACP, FGCP, has over twenty years of medical practice and research experience. He is a member of the WHO Team for the Multinational Study on Ageing and Adult Health (SAGE) and, principal investigator of the WHO World Health Survey Plus (WHS+) in Ghana. He is an honorary Associate Professor of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and  Dean, of the University of Ghana Medical School, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana.

Professor Yawson is a physician, public health practitioner, academic, and researcher. He combines these skills in the provision of health care, development, and strengthening of national and international health systems through research and policy development as well as training and mentoring of students.

His research places special emphasis on vulnerable populations such as older adults, children with non-communicable diseases, and persons living with HIV and AIDS, to determine inequities in access to healthcare as well as barriers to quality healthcare and universal health coverage.

He possesses key competencies in health planning and policy, and economic evaluation of health programmes in developing countries, and applies these effectively to provide a comprehensive view of the systemic challenges of the health system.  Has contributed to the health systems of Ghana and other West African Countries including, Guinea Bissau, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia.

He has worked and provided services for international organizations including, the World Bank, Global Financing Facility, Global Fund, WHO, UNICEF, USAID, JICA, GIZ, PATH, and FHI 360, as well as key national corporate organizations (Volta River Authority and Gold Fields Ghana).

He has been in University management positions for the past eight years and is a member of the Board of the  Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
