Paediatric Nephrology
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT
The Paediatric Nephrology Department at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) provides specialized care for infants, children, and adolescents with kidney-related conditions. The department focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of kidney diseases affecting children, using evidence-based medical approaches and child-centred care practices.
The department provides comprehensive assessment and management of a wide range of paediatric kidney disorders, including congenital kidney conditions, urinary tract problems, kidney infections, hypertension related to kidney disease, and kidney failure. Through collaboration with paediatricians, nephrologists, urologists, radiologists, nurses, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals, the department ensures coordinated care to preserve kidney function, improve health outcomes, and enhance the quality of life for young patients.
