Overview
Our world-class Endoscopy Unit is located on the ground floor of Building Three (Admin and OPD block) of the Centre and is well equipped with state-of-the-art endoscopy systems. We also have reception and waiting areas as well as safe and comfortable recovery bays with gender separation.
The Unit is currently fully operational and provides diagnostic and interventional endoscopic procedures for both in-patients and out-patients, including emergencies. Services are supported by a team of highly skilled and experienced gastroenterologists, general surgeons, and endoscopy nurses to meet the healthcare needs of our clients.
I recently visited the endoscopy unit of UGMC where I did both endoscopy and colonoscopy. I must say that I was very scared of doing both procedures on the same day. But after speaking with Mr. Joel M. Kpodo, a nurse at the endoscopy unit who took really good care of me, answering my questions and following up on me before the day of the procedure, I was able to go through it. He was very professional and caring. I must say one of the best nurses I have come into contact with here in Ghana. I also want to say that the facilities were top notch and the level of cleanliness at the facility was very much appreciated. Kudos to the team and management of UGMC.

are paramount to us. Our nursing team is highly trained in endoscope reprocessing and applies updated reprocessing and infection prevention protocols in practice. The Unit ensures single use of critical endoscopic accessories and strictly enforces the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

. From pre-procedure assessment, through the procedure room, to recovery, clients are made as comfortable as possible. Our well-equipped recovery bay provides an ambient and therapeutic environment for quick and safe recovery. We ensure maximum client privacy and confidentiality throughout the entire journey.
Our unit also applies some of the
best technologies
in endoscopy reporting, enabling on-demand access to pictures and videos of findings for review, training, and research.

COVID-19 Preparedness
Since the inception of COVID-19, all our staff have been extra cautious with infection prevention protocols. We consistently use appropriate PPE and strictly observe all COVID-19 safety measures. A rigorous pre-procedure assessment is conducted to triage clients during this period.
On-Call Team
An on-call team is available for bleeds and other emergency endoscopies outside working hours, including weekends and holidays.
