EXECUTIVE SEARCH - DIRECTOR OF PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES

Job Purpose

  • To lead in the delivery of pharmaceutical services and provide technical advice on pharmaceutical matters. 
  • To have overall responsibility for the management of medicines and ensure the maintenance of pharmaceutical standards through monitoring, research, policy development, and implementation within the UGMC. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the provision of good quality pharmaceutical services in the UGMC. 
  • Ensure that policies are developed for the effective and efficient provision of pharmaceutical services. 
  • Ensure the promotion and monitoring of Rational Use of Medicines (RUM). 
  • Ensure the establishment and effective functioning of Medicines and Therapeutic Committees. 
  • Be the principal advisor on matters concerning the provision of pharmaceutical services. 
  • Advise on human resource matters relating to pharmacy practice. 
  • Ensure the regular monitoring of standards of pharmaceutical services. 
  • Hold regular review meetings with heads of departments and staff of the Directorate. 
  • Submit periodic and timely reports on pharmaceutical activities to the Chief Executive Officer. 
  • Work in collaboration with other stakeholders in the health sector in the formulation of health sector reforms and policies. 
  • Provide technical advice on the procurement of medicines and other pharmaceuticals. 
  • Facilitate the establishment and management of Medicines Information Services. 
  • Coordinate research and development activities in the provision of pharmaceutical services. 
 
REQUIREMENTS 

Educational Qualification 

  • Degree in Pharmacy and registered as a pharmacist (with the Pharmacy Council Ghana), with at least 15 years post-qualification relevant work experience, 5 years of which must have been in a leadership role. 
  • Must have a postgraduate qualification in pharmacy. 
  • Must qualify for Management/Administration.  
  • Show evidence of leadership and continuing professional development. 

Knowledge & Experience 

–    Experience in planning and implementing service developments. 
–    Experience in policy and standards development. 
–    Research experience. 
–    A broad knowledge base of UGMC policies and operating procedures. 
–    A broad knowledge base of the Standards of Pharmaceutical Care and SOPs and Guidelines. 
–    Knowledge of the UGMC Patient Charter and quality assurance issues. 
–    Knowledge of health and safety.

– Excellent problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills. 

– Ability to work on own initiative, lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team. 

–  Ability to organize and manage workload and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines. 

– Demonstrate flexibility and a methodological approach to work. 

Ability to take initiative and to influence others positively.
