The Planning and Health Information Management department is responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of health information. The department receives and registers patients by obtaining patient demographic information to assign a unique identifier number prior to service. As the patient’s first point of contact, one of our goals is to ensure that the patient’s arrival process is completed efficiently with minimal patient flow delays and a friendly environment.
Guided by the principle that accurate, timely, and confidential information is the foundation of good healthcare, the department combines the traditional discipline of medical records-keeping with modern health management information systems and strategic planning, ensuring that UGMC remains both a well-governed institution and a trusted steward of every patient's story.
The department compiles and prepares day-to-day statistical returns, as well as monthly, quarterly, mid-year, and annual statistical reports for the facility. PHIM department is a disciplined engine behind sound decision-making, gathering, safeguarding, and interpreting health information so that clinicians, administrators, and policymakers alike can act on evidence-based decision-making.
Patient privacy is a priority at UGMC. The PHIM department works diligently to ensure that our patients’ data is handled with integrity and maintained in a confidential manner.
