Quality Improvement in Neonatal Care

Led by Nana Twum-Danso

Apply improvement-science methods to diagnose barriers, identify leverage points, and design a realistic improvement pathway for your neonatal setting.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Use core improvement-science methods and tools to diagnose health-system barriers to clinical excellence in neonatal care.
  2. Explain leverage points and their role in transformational improvement.
  3. Identify the most important leverage points in the learner’s own neonatal care context.
  4. Develop a plan to improve a specific pathway in the neonatal health system where the learner works.

Neurodevelopmental Care

Led by Welma Lubbe

A practical clinical skills workshop using simulation models to translate brain-centred care into neuroprotective handling, positioning, skin-to-skin care, responsive feeding, and parent partnership.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how intrauterine and NICU environments affect the developing preterm brain and identify opportunities for a more neuroprotective NICU.
  2. Interpret preterm infant behaviour using Synactive Theory and principles of neuro-social development.
  3. Apply evidence-based handling, positioning, and skin-to-skin strategies that support stability and neurodevelopment.
  4. Demonstrate cue-based feeding principles for the safe transition from tube to oral feeding.
  5. Empower parents as active partners in neuroprotective care throughout the infant’s NICU journey.

A practical conference outcome

Bring a real challenge. Leave with a project plan.

Participants from the same country or hospital will form teams at the end of Day 1. Each team will develop a practical plan in at least one conference subject area and present it to faculty on Day 3 for expert input and implementation guidance.
